Hassan to join Nygren in returning to Celtic earlier than expected
The £6.5 million summer signing has been with Egypt during the international break, after joining the squad for their fixtures. Despite earlier mistranslated claims of an injury in September, the 24 year old played against Angola and South Sudan.
Ahram Online reports that the influential winger who lit up the recent World Cup finals is among several key players expected to miss the South Africa friendly. The outlet says Hassan “will not participate” and will be allowed to return to Glasgow to recover alongside Mohamed Salah and Nice defender Mohamed Abdelmonem.
Thankfully it seems that Hassan is NOT injured, and he’s just been granted additional time to recover for his club duties.
The Hoops restart their domestic campaign a week today with a tough trip to Fir Park before travelling to Lisbon to take on Benfica in the Europa League. Home clashes against Hearts and Celta Vigo, Hearts, and Dundee United as well as an away trip to face Hibs at Easter Road also lying in wait in the month of October.
Hassan joins Benjamin Nygren in being cut loose from international duty earlier than anticipated, with the midfielder also sent back to Glasgow after suffering from a sickness bug that ravaged the Swedish camp.
He was previously told to isolate alongside former Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke, Brighton player Yasin Ayari and RB Salzburg defender John Mellberg.
All four players missed Sweden’s 1-1 Nations league draw in Bosnia on Friday night.
A Swedish FA statement said: “All of the players who have suffered illness are not expected to recover in time for Monday’s match and have all therefore left the camp and returned home.”
Nygren had scored his fourth international goal in his 17th appearance during Sweden’s 3-1 win against Poland earlier in the week before falling ill.
