Former Celtic striker Junior Adamu has continued to rebuild his career after his disappointing Parkhead spell by scoring his first senior international goal for Austria.

Adamu was brought to Glasgow as a late reinforcement for Martin O’Neill’s attack in January, but struggled to make a sustained impact during his short spell with the Hoops.

His Celtic career had started in dramatic fashion when he scored a crucial injury-time winner on his debut against Dundee. The goal ultimately proved significant in Celtic’s successful Scottish Cup campaign, although it would be Adamu’s only strike in six appearances for the club.

Now back playing regularly in the Bundesliga with Schalke, the striker has also forced his way back into the international picture with Austria.

Adamu grabbed his first goal for his country in their 3-1 victory over Kosovo.

With Austria already one goal ahead approaching half-time, Xaver Schlager helped create the opening for Patrick Wimmer, who broke through the Kosovo defence before squaring for Adamu to tap home.

It was the former Celtic striker’s first international goal on his tenth appearance for Austria and helped his country maintain their perfect start to Group B in League 3.
