Charlie Mulgrew and Derek Riordan poke fun at Kirk Broadfoot after furious Rangers outburst
Former players from across the Scottish Premiership took part in the revived tournament at Braehead Arena, with Celtic and Rangers eventually meeting in Sunday’s final.
Rangers had thrashed the Hoops 7-1 during the group stage, but Celtic responded in style by winning the rematch 5-4 to lift the trophy, with Gary Hooper scoring the decisive goal.
Footage subsequently emerged on social media showing tensions boiling over inside the Rangers dressing room after the defeat.
Broadfoot could be heard directing his frustration towards goalkeeper Lee Robinson and shouted: “You’re diving out the way. You had fing seven shots this tournament. Mate, you’re meant to be a goalie. Take it on the fing dish!”
Robinson responded: “Shut the f*** up!”
Celtic’s former players had been regularly booed during the weekend but were more than happy to give some back to the Rangers supporters inside Braehead after lifting the trophy.
And Riordan has now joined in with some social-media trolling of Broadfoot’s memorable “dish” remark.
The former Celtic striker posted an image on Instagram from one of the games against Rangers showing Mulgrew blocking a Charlie Adam effort with his face.
Riordan captioned the picture: “Just take it in the dish!!!”
Mulgrew quickly joined in, resharing his former teammate’s post alongside a laughing emoji.
