Celtic star scores to help national team maintain perfect start

Celtic star Benjamin Nygren put on a solid display for his national team on Monday night, helping Sweden to a 3-1 win over Poland in the Nations League.

Graham Potter's men made it two wins from two in the competition with what will be seen as an impressive win. Nygren started from the bench for the opener, but he was given a start in this one, starting in the front two of a 4-4-2, although playing just off the striker.

Still, the Celtic forward got on the scoresheet after just eight minutes to get his side going, and he went on to play 80 minutes in all before being replaced by Hugo Larsson.

The win puts Sweden top of the group and two points ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who Potter's men play next, on Friday, and Nygren has made a good case with his goal to start that one. The usual first-choice frontmen are Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak, but Isak has been dealing with an injury.

Then again, local media weren't too impressed, with fotbollskanalen writing of Nygren: "Was in the right spot in the penalty area early on and headed in the opening goal. After that, he wasn't heavily involved in the play and, on one occasion, gave the ball away in his own half—a mistake that could have proved costly."

Sweden actually beat Poland to qualify for the World Cup in the spring, and Nygren also proved important in that one, so it's only good memories for the Celtic star when it comes to playing the Eastern European nation.

But there is no time to well on the result, with this extended international window packed with four fixtures, meaning a rapid turnaround and more action as soon as Friday. Sweden will be hoping to maintain a 100% record against a hard-to-beat Bosnia and Herzegovina side.
