Celtic injury fears eased as winger confirms full recovery from hamstring problem
The Hoops headed into the international break on the back of three successive defeats, with Yang among the players unavailable to O’Neill after departing for the Asian Games with South Korea.
The winger had been enjoying a promising run of form before leaving Parkhead, scoring Celtic’s late winner against St Mirren in his final appearance before linking up with his country.
There was concern for Celtic when Yang subsequently revealed he had suffered a hamstring injury and admitted he had not been in good physical condition.
However, those fears have now eased after the 24-year-old confirmed he has recovered ahead of the latter stages of the tournament.
Yang said, via The Scottish Sun: “I’m sorry for not contributing to the team. But I’ve fully recovered my fitness now.”
It represents a significant improvement on Yang’s previous update, when he outlined the extent of his fitness problems and targeted a return for the latter stages.
Yang said: “I have a minor injury to my hamstring. Right now, I am preparing with the goal of reaching the semi-finals and the finals.
“I was selected as a wild card, but since I haven’t been in good physical condition recently and now I’m on top of that with an injury, I feel really sorry for my teammates. I also feel like I’m not being of any help.
“So I tried to be of even a little more help from the bench.
“I also check on their daily lives to see if they are experiencing any inconveniences, and I try to do whatever they need. The goal is a quick recovery.”
