Celtic didn’t show much interest says Saracchi
Marcelo Saracchi has revealed that the Celtic board didn’t show much interest in making his deal a permanent one this summer, despite Martin O’Neill being very interested in making that deal happen…
That left Saracchi, who was desperate for a Celtic return after a successful loan spell last season, just as frustrated as the Celtic manager Martin O’Neill who openly talked up signing the influential left back as cover for Kieran Tierney.
Reflecting on the situation back in the summer, Saracchi told Daily Record : “Yeah. It seemed like Martin was really interested and keen on keeping me.
“I explained the situation to them that I wanted to give respect and time to the people in Houston as well. But it did feel like the negotiations were going long.
“I did explain my situation and I know Martin was really interested in bringing me back. I feel like going to a team where they want you, not going to a team where they don’t want you. I felt like there wasn’t much interest or maybe they just didn’t count on me being an important player.”
He went on to say that he did not want to be part of a team that did not want him and that it was mostly him and his agent trying to get the move to Celtic done.
Marcelo explained: “It wasn’t much of them reaching out to us and giving me an offer. I tried everything possible to go back. It felt like there wasn’t much intention from their end. They didn’t give any offer.
“But I wish them the best and I always try to keep track on how they are doing.”
The Uruguayan international also said that he hasn’t ruled out a return to Glasgows east end.
He said: “Do I hope I’ll be able to play for Celtic again? I think yes. Honestly, the story with me and Celtic isn’t finished yet. I would like to go back.
“But like I said, it’s just on their end to see their interest and their intention in wanting me there. But things could change. There are always solutions, so I think yes.”
Marcelo Saracchi certainly be welcomed back with open arms by the Celtic management team, the players and the supporters but as often happens the Celtic Board always seem to have some reason or other to frustrate the lot of us. Meanwhile we have to boy from Chelsea we signed on loan while injured. Liam Scales as the back-up left back and Kieran Tierney playing more minutes than seems sensible.
Some clubs leave the football matters to the football people. Celtic’s billionaire and his placement lawyer ad accountant know much better being world class in everything that they do.
