Celtic defender Alistair Johnston’s advice helped seal summer Scottish Premiership move

Alistair Johnston played his part in convincing Canada international Owen Goodman to make the move to Scottish football this summer.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper joined Dundee on loan from Crystal Palace, but sought out some advice from the Celtic defender before committing to the switch.

Goodman wanted to get Johnston’s perspective on the Scottish Premiership and, more specifically, what Dundee were like to face after his experiences playing against them for Celtic.

The Parkhead right-back’s assessment was clearly a positive one, with Goodman admitting the conversation helped convince him that Dens Park was the right destination for his development.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Goodman said: “I gave him (AJ) a message before I spoke to the manager (Steven Pressley) here and I just said to him, I asked him, you know, what’s the league like?

“Obviously he’s at Celtic, I said, ‘What’s it like when you play against Dundee?’ He was just all positive, really.

“He said the league’s really good. ‘I’ll come here and I’ll do really well. He said the club itself, whenever they play the club, it’s a good club. An older club, but a really good club.

“That was kind of enough for me to be like, okay, this is where I want to play my football this season. This is where I want to develop and this is where I want to get better.”
