Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has requested that the club push to re-sign Christopher Nkunku from AC Milan, reports CaughtOffside.

Alonso, who has signed a four-year deal, won’t officially take over as Blues boss until July 1st but is analysing the squad in order to improve upon last season’s sub-par season.

A 2-1 defeat to Sunderland on the final day of the campaign compounded Chelsea to a 10th-placed finish as the west London side missed out on European football.

Alonso eager to bring Nkunku back

Even so, Chelsea managed to lure Alonso to Stamford Bridge and the Spaniard is reportedly keen to bring Nkunku back to the capital.

The Frenchman departed for AC Milan last summer following an injury-hit two years at the Premier League side.

The 28-year-old made just 11 league starts across his two seasons in London on the back of his £52m move to Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023.

Nkunku wasn’t a first-team regular for the Rossoneri last season, registering 15 league starts, the France international still managed seven goals and three assists in Italy’s top tier last term.

And while it wasn’t enough to make France’s 2026 World Cup squad, it was a commendable haul for Nkunku, who may feel he has unfinished business at Chelsea.

Alonso already has an abundance of attacking players to work with but Nkunku’s versatility on the frontline could prove an appealing trait for the former Real Madrid boss.

AC Milan prepared to sanction summer sale

AC Milan, meanwhile, are reportedly prepared to entertain offers of around £35m to cash in on Nkunku.

The Rossoneri’s failure to secure a top-four finish is expected to impact how the club operates in the market this summer.

In addition, a late-season collapse cost Max Allegri his job, which could have repercussions over the club’s off-season business.
