“What a great manager he is” – Man Utd defender Maguire full of praise for Amorim
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has praised Ruben Amorim for the work he did, even if he struggled at Old Trafford.
Amorim was one of the hottest properties in management after he won five major trophies as manager of Sporting CP, in a highly successful tenure from 2020 to 2024. Manchester United were the ones who landed him, but things did not go as well there.
As we broke down in an analysis at the time of his hiring, there were various reasons why Amorim was not as successful at United, some of which were to do with disagreements away from the field. He got a small bit of revenge on Saturday, beating his former employers 4-2 in a friendly.
Maguire spoke to reporters after the game in Poland and offered a comment on Amorim, who he had the chance to see again after his time in Manchester. His comments were relayed by the BBC.
“It was great to see him and all his staff. I got on with Ruben really well and all his staff. I am happy he has another chance to impress and show everyone what a great manager he is,” he said.
“I’m sure he’s going to be a success. I have nothing bad to say about Ruben. It just didn’t work out at Manchester United. But he’s got a massive club now. I’ll be following them and hope they have an amazing season.”
