West Ham United set to sign Leeds United forward
After West Ham United's 2-2 draw with Burnley, Nuno Espírito Santo called for more signings. His wish is the club's command, as the Hammers are set to sign Joel Piroe from Leeds United.
According to Voetbal International (translated from Dutch), "Piroe (27) is close to a transfer to West Ham United. The Londoners want to secure the striker very quickly and are in advanced talks with Leeds United. This has consequences for Troy Parrott, who seemed set to make the same move from AZ."
Piroe knows the Championship well, having scored 73 goals with 18 assists in 179 appearances in the division. This is a combined statistic from spells at Swansea City and Leeds. English football's second division is his level, as he failed to make an impression in the Premier League.
Last season, he played just 16 times for Leeds in the Premier League without a goal contribution. His game time was limited as the Elland Road side signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton.
Joel Piroe could be a great addition to West Ham's squad
It appears that a potential transfer for Parrott is off as West Ham are not willing to meet AZ Alkmaar's fee of €25 million for the player. Piroe would be a much more affordable option for the Hammers.
The Hammers still have Taty Castellanos at the club, and he played 90 minutes against the Clarets. However, he has been linked with AC Milan and Everton this transfer window. Pablo started alongside Castellanos up front against Burnley, but was replaced by James Ward-Prowse at half-time.
Niclas Füllkrug is also still on the club's books. However, a transfer to Werder Bremen appears to be gaining momentum.
The transfer window closes on September 1. The draw with Burnley showed that the Hammers will need more firepower if they are to gain promotion back to the Premier League.
