Prominent figures who shared the pitch with Keegan gathered on the pitch to pay their respects to their former colleague. Members of Newcastle's 1990s team, including Faustino Asprilla, stood alongside Liverpool legends Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish near the tunnel.

A stellar career across European football
Keegan began his senior playing career at Scunthorpe United in 1968 before joining Liverpool under Bill Shankly three years later, negotiating a £50 weekly contract. Following success in Merseyside, he moved to Hamburg, securing the Bundesliga title and winning the European Footballer of the Year award in both 1978 and 1979. He returned home to represent Southampton and Newcastle United, later concluding his playing days with Blacktown City in Australia having scored 204 goals in 592 career appearances. Keegan subsequently transitioned into management, taking charge of Newcastle, Fulham, Manchester City, and England.
