Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly reached an agreement with Fiorentina on personal terms.

The 25-year-old has been the odd man out in Michael Carrick’s attacking department since the manager’s appointment in January.

The English tactician sent a clear message to the player by keeping him on the bench against Hull City on the opening day of the Premier League, even with the team desperate for goals that never came.

Following the latest omission, Zirkzee has understood he’s no longer wanted at United. Therefore, the versatile forward is now ready to entertain offers, as he risks spending another campaign as a benchwarmer.

The Dutchman has been heavily linked with a return to Serie A for years, as he remains highly regarded in Italy thanks to his exploits at Bologna.

But while Juventus and Napoli were initially identified as his two most likely destinations, Fiorentina are now the heavy favourites to sign Zirkzee.

The Viola are apparently on the verge of selling Moise Kean to Como, who have been on the striker’s tracks for months. This would make room for a new arrival, and Fiorentina’s sporting director Fabio Paratici (formerly of Tottenham) is looking to add the Man Utd exile to Fabio Grosso’s squad.

According to reliable Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina, the Tuscan side has reached an accord with the Netherlands international on personal terms.

However, Fiorentina still need to strike a deal with Man Utd before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Who could replace Zirkzee at Man United?

While the formula and figures remain unknown, it certainly feels like the stars are lining up for Fiorentina and Zirkzee. Therefore, MUFC must start plotting their next move and secure a replacement before sanctionning the Dutchman’s departure.

At this late stage of the summer, Man Utd don’t have a plethora of options to choose from, and they don’t seem prepared to splash a large amount on a striker who would only play second fiddle to Benjamin Sesko.

Jean-Philippe Mateta (29) has been mentioned as a potential solution, but Crystal Palace are still gunning for a considerable transfer fee, despite the Frenchman’s expiring contract.

On the other hand, Alexander Sorloth (30) could be a more attainable target, as he appears to be an afterthought at Atletico Madrid, despite his strong reputation.
