Untimely UCL blow: Carrick confirms 7.0-rated Red had to be replaced due to injury vs Everton

Michael Carrick has confirmed that Marcus Rashford suffered a slight injury before being replaced against Everton yesterday.

The forward played 70 minutes before being replaced by Patrick Dorgu.

Carrick: Rashford was hooked after sustaining injury

Given he had been one of United’s standout performers on Merseyside, fans were perplexed to see Rashford withdrawn when the side were chasing the win.

Throughout his time on the pitch at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Rashford recorded three successful dribbles, two line-breaking passes and created one chance, earning himself a 7.0 rating on FotMob.

It marked the 28-year-old’s second successive start, with Carrick deploying an unchanged XI from the 5-2 win over Ipswich Town the weekend prior.

Now, there will be questions over Rashford’s condition and whether he’ll train in the coming days ahead of United’s Champions League opener.

The Reds welcome reigning Azerbaijan league champions Sabah to Old Trafford this Thursday evening to kick off their group phase, before Manchester City make the short trip across to M16 for the first Manchester derby instalment on Sunday.

With other competitions now getting underway alongside the league, Carrick’s team and squad depth will really be put to the test after a season of only top-flight action and premature cup exits.
