Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell wants to join Manchester United amid interest from the Red Devils, two sources have confirmed.
United signed only four players in the summer, three of them midfielders. That was a necessity with Casemiro leaving and Manuel Ugarte picking up a long-term injury.
But after Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba were signed, the Red Devils looked into a new left-back, where Luke Shaw is the only out-and-out option.
Lewis Hall was the main option courted in the summer but Newcastle made it evident he wasn't going to be available. That he's since signed a new deal makes it even harder to prise him from St James' Park.
Ahead of the January window, where there's a sense United will once again go after a left-back, Palace man Mitchell has come onto the radar.
It appears United are in with a good chance of landing the left-back, with Football Insider first stating that Mitchell will find it hard to turn down an offer from his admirers in Manchester.
Indy Kaila have since reported an understanding that Mitchell wants to move to Old Trafford, and United themselves are aware of that.

The aforementioned interest in Newcastle man Hall is likely to cease after his new contract and his latest comments on the desires he has at the club.
While flattered by links with United, it appears the Englishman is fully focussed on his current club.
Hall said: “I think when you’re at a team you don’t think too far into the future.
“Obviously, I’m really grateful for the contract that I’ve received and the trust that I’ve been given from the board and from the manager and everything like that.
“But I’m just taking it game by game, just trying to do the best I can for this club.
“We’ve got ambitions and as long as we achieve these ambitions and achieve what we want to achieve, I’m sure I’ll be here for a long time.”
“After not many conversations, not many training sessions, I knew that the manager was going to be really good for this club and I knew that as a team, bringing in new players and improving the squad was really important and as soon as we did that, it was a no-brainer really to sign.”
