Tottenham still have 2 unchecked agenda items in the summer transfer window
There is a strong case to be made that Tottenham Hotspur have been the biggest winners of the summer transfer market in European football this season, landing two potential superstar midfielders in Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, signing Andy Robertson from Liverpool at left back, landing backup goalkeeper Martin Dubravka to mentor countryman Antonin Kinsky, signing Roberto De Zerbi favorite Jan Paul van Hecke at center back, and then snagging the attacking pair of Savio and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City.
But Tottenham cannot be done there, and De Zerbi has more than implied that he is hungry for Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange to help him get even more talent through the door. There are, in particular, still two big orders of business for Spurs to accomplish and check off their agenda list this summer 2026 transfer window.
Their first and most important is to fill out their new look attack with another potential source of goals and assists - a player versatile enough to make an impact from the left wing or even at the center forward position. Liverpool star Cody Gakpo had a great Matchday 1 performance against Newcastle United under new manager Andoni Iraola, and his future remains murky with the Reds still interested in keeping him, especially after that performance, since Bradley Barcola and even another winger signing are far from guaranteed.
Tottenham still need a new right back
But Gakpo remains high on Roberto De Zerbi's wish list for Tottenham Hotspur. He is a huge fan of the player and fit, and he has made it clear to the press that he wants more goals (and assists) from the Lilywhite wingers in summer 2026.
Aside from Gakpo, Tottenham do need one big upgrade elsewhere in the squad, and that is a new backup right back for Pedro Porro. The Spanish international is still recovering to full fitness after being the best player in his position at the 2026 World Cup, and Tottenham currently do not have any backups for him after selling Djed Spence, another incredible World Cup player, to Inter Milan in Serie A. Right now, the backup is Archie Gray, who has started both games against Charlton Athletic and Brentford.
Gray is a warrior and already the team's fifth captain, but he is no right back. That much is clear. And even De Zerbi has said playing there is not the best for his development. Tottenham still need to find a better right back option for Porro this season.
