Tottenham are stepping up their interest in Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January transfer window, reports Sky Sports.
Semenyo is a man in demand with a number of Premier League sides credited with an interest in the Bournemouth star.
The 25-year-old has a £65m release clause in a Cherries contract he penned over the summer despite interest from Spurs and Manchester United.
However, both sides opted to pursue moves for Mohammed Kudus and Bryan Mbeumo, respectively, having been put off by Bournemouth’s £70m valuation of Semenyo.
Spurs face competition for Semenyo
Spurs and United have both been linked with a move for the Ghanaian at the turn of the year but won’t be the only sides in for the winger, with Liverpool and Manchester City also keeping tabs on Semenyo.
The Reds are looking to bolster their attack next month as they gear up to lose Mohamed Salah to the Africa Cup of Nations in mid-December.
Semenyo, whose Ghana side failed to qualify for AFCON, is high on Liverpool’s wishlist as they look to bring in a new forward.
City, meanwhile, are hoping to beat off their Premier League rivals in the race to sign Semenyo, who has scored six goals and provided three assists for Andoni Iraola’s side this season.
Spurs, though, are aiming to steal a march on their English counterparts as they strive to bring in a new left winger in January.
The north London side had courted a new wideman over the summer, but were left frustrated in their efforts to sign Savinho from City.
Another target, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, signed a new contract at Villa Park last month to quash speculation over a potential January exit.
Frank under pressure following poor form
Spurs are looking to end a four-game winless run when they take on Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Tuesday night.
The north London side have struggled under Thomas Frank in recent weeks, with the Dane under pressure to turn the club’s fortunes around.
Frank was brought in as a replacement for Europa League winning boss Ange Postecoglou, and was backed heavily in the summer market as Spurs signed Kudus, Joao Palhinha, Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani, while captain Cristian Romero also penned a new contract in the capital.
