Tottenham Hotspur are not showing much urgency right now with just weeks before the transfer market closes, but they should be scrambling for a new backup right back for Pedro Porro. Not that they really had one, but after selling Djed Spence to Serie A champions Inter Milan, Spurs are out of options if the worst were to happen to their workhorse - and arguably best player.

The main backup right back for Porro this preseason was Archie Gray, and while the future Tottenham captain was actually quite excellent in this role, as Roberto De Zerbi has already admitted, playing Gray out of position regularly, as Ange Postecoglou did in his first season, is not a great idea.

Quietly, Tottenham could have burned rivals West Ham United again this summer by poaching one of their best players in right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who would have been an ideal backup as a more defensive option to help spell Porro. He has been one of the best right backs in the Premier League for years, and while he does not suit De Zerbi's playing style, he's a better athlete and progressor than Djed Spence - and, yes, an even beter defender.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka would have been a suitable signing

But Wan-Bissaka will not follow in the foot steps of new Tottenham Hotspur stars Mohammed Kudus and Mateus Fernandes. Instead, as Fabrizio Romano has revealed, AWB is going to sign with Aston Villa, who have quickly become a rival to Tottenham in the top five race for Champions League slots.

There is added significance to Aaron Wan-Bissaka joining Aston Villa in particular, because he is an immediate starter for them and a massive upgrade over Matty Cash - a player Tottenham fans despise. Cash is one of the worst right backs in the Premier League, so going from him to Wan-Bissaka is bad news for whoever starts on the left wing for Tottenham.

Wan-Bissaka will give Aston Villa more points in the Premier League table in that top five race, which should be even more heated now that Tottenham are stronger under Roberto De Zerbi with new stars like Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes to anchor the team.

All the while, Wan-Bissaka would have been a pretty sweet option to help give Pedro Porro rest and maybe even add additional defensive solidity for De Zerbi while still working well with Mohammed Kudus to progress the ball. Now, Spurs have to scour the market for that possible right back.
