Tottenham fans have a Dejan Kulusevski dream to make everything click

For the first time ever, Tottenham Hotspur supporters can feel a sense of optimism in the air regarding star right winger Dejan Kuluesvski, who has steadily been praciting more and more and was a huge "photo bomb" during the footage of new striker signing Omar Marmoush's first practices with his teammates.

Kulusevski has not played a single game for Tottenham since the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season when he suffered a devastating, career threatening knee injury that was initially termed a knock before devolving into something more. And as the months rolled on with no updates, Spurs supporters got more and more concerned.

After missing the 2026 World Cup for Sweden, Kulusevski has been a more present member around the team, and now that he is practicing, there is real hope that he could potentially be back in 2027 alongside two other key attacking players in regular starter Xavi Simons and promising young backup Wilson Odobert.

Dejan Kulusevski still has something to give to Tottenham

While Kulusevski is getting to be closer to Odobert at this stage than a Simons in terms of his importance to Tottenham Hotspur, Roberto De Zerbi has been gassing up the former Serie A star a lot at press conferences. And De Zerbi definitely remembers how good Kulu was back when he was coaching Sassuolo, because he was literally named the best young player in the league at Parma and was as big of a prospect as Federico Chiesa for clubs like Atalanta, Parma, and, of course, Juventus, who signed him from La Dea and loaned him to the old club of Gianluigi Buffon in 2019/20.

Tottenham fans are dreaming of De Zerbi unlocking Dejan Kulusevski again. When the Swedish international first showed up at Tottenham, he was completing a world class front three with Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, and he looked like a world beater at times.

Ange Postecoglou made him more of a midfielder and took away the emphasis on him scoring goals, which actually did hurt Kulu's trajectory. While Tottenham have signed new wingers on the right since Kulu's knee injury in Mohammed Kudus, Savio, and potentially Iliman Ndiaye with Wilson Odobert also showing some capbility at the position, Kulusevski, at his best, was better than all of them in the Premier League.

If Kulusevski can still have some athleticism and morph his game into being more of a playmaker and a general, he could be a great option in an inverted playmaker or modern No. 10 role and be a replacement for James Maddison or an adjunct right wing option to Kudus and Savio. Kulusevski could be the last piece to add chance creation and more end product to Spurs both off the bench and against teams in the cups so Spurs can win multiple trophies in a season one day.
