Tottenham make decision on selling Micky van de Ven amid Liverpool, Man Utd interest

The decision at Tottenham on the sale of defender Micky van de Ven amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester United is clear, per Football Insider.

When Spurs were struggling at the back end of last season, it was initially suggested Van de Ven was open to leaving. But when they confirmed survival on the final day of the Premier League season, he opted to remain.

Tottenham remain in danger now, rock bottom of the league after five games, and there's once again a suggestion that the Dutch defender could leave.

Liverpool and United are both believed to be interested in him, though Spurs aren't fearful at the moment.

Insider Pete O'Rourke said: "Tottenham are quite relaxed about this. They tied down Van de Ven to a new contract in August until 2031. So look, Tottenham hold all the aces here, he's been made club captain as well, so I can't imagine they'll be too keen to lose such a key player.

"Tottenham won't be entertaining a sale anytime soon. Top players will always attract interest and have suitors, but he's under a long-term contract at Tottenham and they're planning for life with Mickey van de Ven."

Micky Van de Ven won't want to leave

In a separate update from O'Rourke from Van de Ven's side, after suggesting Tottenham don't want to let him go, it's also believed the defender himself won't be actively pushing to leave yet.

O'Rourke said: "Tottenham are quite relaxed about this. They tied down Van de Ven to a new contract in August until 2031. So look, Tottenham hold all the aces here, he's been made club captain as well, so I can't imagine they'll be too keen to lose such a key player.

With that said, though, Spurs will have to turn things around if they want their big players to stay put.

After it looked like Van de Ven could choose to leave last season, a third horror season in a row will not do a lot to convince him that north London is the place to be.

That goes for other top names who have had to endure poor seasons in multiple campaigns.
