Tottenham are keen on signing FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa but would face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle, reports Caught Offside.
Spurs are expected to dip into the market in the New Year as they seek to strengthen their attack.
A left winger was believed to be the priority after a failed push for Savinho but the club are reportedly weighing up a move for a new striker.
Spurs target Spain international in striker pursuit
And they have today been linked with a move for Aghehowa, who joined Porto from Atletico Madrid last summer.
The 21-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea 18 months ago but the switch to Stamford Bridge fell through and the youngster instead moved to the Portuguese powerhouse.
Aghehowa has caught the eye in Portugal’s top tier, too, as he scored 19 league goals and laid on an additional three assists in his debut season.
The Spanish forward has started the current campaign well having scored five times in his opening seven league outings.
However, Porto, who fully own the player’s rights, have placed a €100m release clause in Aghehowa’s contract, and will steadfastly refuse to budge on that price.
Reported financial issues could well force Porto to consider their position on Aghehowa with Spurs supposedly lining up a short-term move for the striker, which would include an option to buy.
Premier League interest in Aghehowa
Spurs wouldn’t be the only side in for Aghehowa should Porto consider cashing in on the former Atletico hitman.
North London rivals Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Aghehowa, though they did spend big to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting earlier this year.
Aghehowa has also cropped up on Forest’s radar, while Newcastle considered a move for the Porto star over the summer.
The Magpies instead prioritised Nick Woltemade and Yoana Wissa in their striker pursuit as a replacement for Alexander Isak, who moved to Liverpool on deadline day.
Solanke tipped to be shown Spurs exit
Links with a move for Aghehowa have emerged as Spurs consider whether to cut their losses on Dominic Solanke.
Solanke moved to north London from Bournemouth 18 months’ ago and enjoyed a solid debut season in the capital as he scored nine times.
The 28-year-old has been plagued by injury issues since his move to Spurs and an ankle injury has restricted the England international to just 43 minutes of league action.
Solanke last featured for Spurs at Manchester City in August and has failed to start a competitive match for Thomas Frank’s side this season.
