Preliminary agreement

Leipzig have moved closer to re-signing French striker Christopher Nkunku after reaching a preliminary agreement with Milan over a transfer in the current window.

According to Foot Mercato, the deal would see Nkunku loaned to Leipzig for 3 million euros, with an option to buy worth around 27 million euros. Nothing is signed yet. The German club still need to agree personal terms with the player.

Bringing Nkunku back to square one is the plan for Leipzig after a spell at Milan that never took off. The Italian side, meanwhile, continue to weigh up the best way to move him on.

Newcastle watching on

Newcastle remain firmly in the race. The Magpies are pressing on with talks with Leipzig and the player's camp, keen to turn the move into a permanent deal rather than a loan.

That offer could hand the English club an edge, especially as Milan may prefer to sell the player outright over a loan with a deferred buy option.
