The Newcastle United players still in international action this week
The international break is finally starting to wind down, but there are still a number of Newcastle United players away representing their countries.
Quite a few of the Magpies’ international contingent have now finished their duties, while 10 still have at least one fixture to come over the next few days.
Here’s who is still in action before everyone can finally get back to club football and forget about this boring three-week period…
Malick Thiaw and Nick Woltemade: Germany
Greece vs Germany: Sunday, October 4, 7:45pm
Newcastle’s (kind of) German duo have one final game to come during the international break.
Both players featured in Germany’s 2-0 win over Serbia on Thursday, with Thiaw playing the full 90 minutes and Woltemade featuring for 77 minutes.
Germany now travel to Greece on Sunday evening for their final Nations League fixture of the window.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo: Belgium
France vs Belgium: Monday, October 5, 7:45pm
Fernandez-Pardo also has one more game to come with Belgium.
The Newcastle forward has made appearances in the opening games of the window against Italy and France, but wasn’t involved in the squad in Belgium’s 3-0 win over Turkey on Friday.
Belgium will now face France in Paris on Monday to bring their international schedule to an end.
Lewis Hall: England
England vs Czechia: Tuesday, October 6, 7:45pm
Hall remains with the England squad and has one final fixture to come.
The Newcastle left-back played the full game in England’s 2-0 win over Czechia earlier in the break before starting again in Saturday’s huge 7-0 victory over Croatia, performing exceptionally well in both.
Thomas Tuchel’s side now return to Wembley to face Czechia again on Tuesday where Hall could line-up against teammate Lukáš Horníček.
Lukáš Horníček: Czechia
England vs Czechia: Tuesday, October 6, 7:45pm
Horníček is also still with his country and will have one final chance to feature when Czechia face England.
The Newcastle goalkeeper started the opening game of the window against Croatia but was an unused substitute against England and again in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Spain.
Czechia currently have three goalkeeping options with their manager admitting he doesn’t know which one is his first choice. Horníček will be hoping he’s trusted between the posts at Wembley on Tuesday.
Aladji Bamba: France Under-21s
France U21s vs Switzerland U21s: Tuesday, October 6, 6pm
Bamba has one more game to come with France Under-21s.
The Newcastle midfielder played in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Luxembourg, having already registered an assist on his U21 debut against Estonia earlier in the break.
France will now welcome Switzerland on Tuesday for their final qualifier of the window.
It was originally set to be a fourth game for Newcastle’s Ewen Jaouen too, but the goalkeeper has since withdrawn from the France squad after suffering a thigh injury in training.
Sean Steur: Netherlands Under-21s
Netherlands U21s vs Bosnia & Herzegovina U21s: Tuesday, October 6, 6pm
Steur has one final fixture remaining with the Netherlands Under-21s.
The 18-year-old played the full 90 minutes in Friday’s 4-2 win over Slovenia, having made his U21 debut as a late substitute against Norway earlier in the window.
The Netherlands now finish their qualifying campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday.
Vakhtang Salia: Georgia Under-21s
Germany U21s vs Georgia U21s: Tuesday, October 6, 5pm
Salia is another Newcastle youngster with one game left.
The striker has featured heavily for Georgia so far during this international window, playing 88 minutes against Northern Ireland before featuring against Greece on Saturday.
Georgia’s final Group F fixture comes against Germany on Tuesday.
They are already unable to qualify for next summer’s European Under-21 Championship, but Salia will still be hoping to finish the window on a positive note.
Alex Murphy and Rory Finneran: Republic of Ireland Under-21s
Republic of Ireland U21s vs England U21s: Tuesday, October 6, 6pm
Murphy and Finneran have both been heavily involved during the break, starting Ireland’s 2-0 win over Slovakia and their dramatic 4-3 victory against Kazakhstan.
Murphy scored his first U21 international goal in that Kazakhstan win, while Finneran started before being replaced in the second half.
They now face England in their final qualifier, with Ireland looking to secure a play-off place.
Who has finished their international duty?
There are also plenty of Newcastle players who have now finished their time away from the club.
Yoane Wissa is one of them, despite DR Congo having another friendly against Uganda on Monday.
The Newcastle striker was released from the DR Congo squad after their two AFCON qualifiers, meaning he was not involved in Friday’s first friendly against Uganda and will not feature in Monday’s second meeting either.
Lewis Miley has also returned to Newcastle after withdrawing from the England Under-21 squad with an injury, meaning he will not feature against Ireland on Tuesday. It is thought the 20-year-old will be fit for the Magpies’ meeting with Coventry City upon the return of the Premier League.
Bazoumana Touré’s Ivory Coast involvement is over after Saturday’s friendly defeat to Cameroon, while Ousmane Diabaté has also completed his Guinea duty after their win over Kenya, in which he made his senior debut in a man of the match performance.
Park Seung-soo has finished his Asian Games campaign too, with South Korea beating Japan 1-0 in Saturday’s final to win the gold medal.
The Newcastle quartet of Michael Mills, Sam Alabi, Kyran Thompson and Roman Dowell have also finished their England Under-18 duty after Spain beat the Young Lions 2-0 in Saturday’s UEFA Friendship Cup final.
Nearly there
So, while the vast majority of Newcastle’s international contingent have now finished their commitments, there are still 10 players with at least one game left to play.
The final fixtures take place on Tuesday, meaning Matthias Jaissle should soon have his squad back together ahead of Newcastle’s return to Premier League action.
The Magpies travel to Coventry City on Monday, October 12, with a full week between the end of the international window and that game marking a good chance for the German to continue working on his system.
