Aston Villa have snatched Japan's Zion Suzuki from under Paris Saint-Germain's nose, striking a final agreement with the Parma goalkeeper and his club. PSG had looked the likeliest destination for the shot-stopper in recent days.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed on Twitter that Aston Villa and Parma have already begun exchanging documents to complete the deal. The English club matched PSG's earlier offer and reached an agreement with the Japanese goalkeeper after his proposed move to the European champions collapsed.

PSG had come agonisingly close to landing Suzuki. They agreed terms with Parma and the player's entourage in a deal worth around 35 million euros, only for negotiations to unravel in the final hours.

According to French newspaper "L'Équipe", the Parisian club walked away after the goalkeeper's representatives sharply raised their financial demands, requesting an additional commission of nearly 3 million euros. PSG officials branded the move "blackmail" and refused to budge.

The paper added that Saint-Germain tried to reach Suzuki directly to explain their position. His advisers blocked him from taking the club's calls, and the European champions then made the final call to close the file and end talks.

Villa pounced the moment the deal stalled. They moved in on the Japanese goalkeeper, matched PSG's financial offer and won the player's approval. The deal is now in its final stages, with an official announcement expected in the coming hours.
