Young winger Savio was spellbinding in his Tottenham Hotspur debut, coming off the bench to deliver a goal and an assist in the Second Round League Cup win over Charlton Athletic, with Spurs finally looking like a Premier League side in romping the EFL Championship club, leaving no shadow of a doubt following their horrendous 3-0 loss to London rivals Brentford at the weekend.

In addition to the goal contributions, Savio, as always, was brililant on the ball in terms of his dribbling and explosiveness, but the real challenge Spurs have for the Brazilian international is to up his goals and assists, especially the former after he barely had any in multiple seasons at Manchester City.

Before Savio's debut, Roberto De Zerbi had already made it clear that he wants Savio to improve his finishing before he can be considered a true superstar in European football. And the former La Liga Player of the Season at Girona responded in kind with a goal to the good against Charlton.

Tottenham need Savio to score

After the game, the Italian manager said of his 85 million pound acquisition, via Alasdair Gold of Football.London, “Yes it is a perfect day for him. I think his biggest step and biggest improvement is to increase the number of goals because (with) his qualities he is one of the best wingers. But the best wingers score many goals. I spoke with him yesterday, two days ago. We put the goal on 10-12 goals because we need 10-12 goals from the wingers. Last season, I think we suffered too much. Also because the number of goals were not enough to compete for nothing more than that position.”

Nobody can argue with Roberto De Zerbi there. Last season, Spurs got absolutely nothing out of the wing positions in terms of goals. Mohammed Kudus had a few assists but no goal threat, while Mathys Tel showed sparks but no real production. And Spurs were bad the year before, too, with Dejan Kulusevski and a declining Son Heung-min not really doing much goal scoring.

Tottenham Hotspur have to score more goals if the want to win more games in the Premier League. It's really that simple, and the goals are going to have to come from all the attackers combined, not just one player, especially since Spurs aren't suddenly going to find an Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe out of thin air. This was a promising start from Savio, but more needs to come, too.
