Roberto De Zerbi already floated a Mohammed Kudus gamble to wake up Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur managed to avoid defeat on Saturday afternoon against Everton, but, for a fourth straight game, Spurs were unable to find the back of the net, and things are starting to reach a crisis point in the attack for Roberto De Zerbi. Although Spurs signed three new attacking players this summer in Savio, Omar Marmoush, and Mykhaylo Mudryk, they are getting no production or goals out of the new attack, and even the returns to fitness of Mohammed Kudus and James Maddison don't look like they are going to totally turn the fortunes around.
Spurs need an X-Factor, and while Maddison is expected to return this week with Liverpool in the League Cup on the horizon, he won't be ready to start right off the bat. And that's partially because he has not even started for Spurs since the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season when he tore his ACL.
But maybe, in the meantime, Kudus can be a solution in the 10. He has played there before, even if not regularly, and he has the quickness and creativity to maybe be more incisive and make more of an impact creatively than he did on the wings last season when he had five assists.
Tottenham could use Mohammed Kudus in the middle
Roberto De Zerbi already floated the idea of converting Mohammed Kudus into a central player for the time being when he addressed the Ghanaian international before the match against Everton. The Italian manager said of Kudus, via The Spurs Watch, " Amazing thing for me. I wanted Mo Kudus when I was in Brighton. I pushed a lot to bring him before he went to West Ham, He can play as a winger, as a number 10 and as a striker also."
Tottenham Hotspur fans have yet to see De Zerbi and Kudus actually work together, as a worse injury than expected kept Kudus out of the remainder of the 2025/26 season, robbing the new signing from West Ham United in 2025 of the chance of getting on the same page quickly as the new coach.
Kudus is still working his way back to fitness, of course, but he did get a good 30 minutes in against Everton. Tottenham need a spark in the attack, and De Zerbi has to be willing to try anything. He has already brought up the possibility of Kudus playing in that 10 role, and that could be a move he tries out soon.
