Richarlison staying at Tottenham is the best thing for Andy Robertson
Tottenham Hotspur supporters still have a lot of doubts about Andy Robertson, because he genuinely looked finished these last two seasons for Liverpool, with the Reds reluctance to keep him being particularly telling. They were even up for selling him in the middle of the 2025/26 Premier League season to Tottenham had they been able to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan to Serie A's Roma, even though Liverpool were struggling quite badly last season. When Liverpool won the Premier League in 2024/25, Robbo was actually their worst player, too.
It took Robertson a couple of games in the preseason to look up for it, but by the end of the friendly fixtures, the veteran Premier League left back was at a top level. He was tremendous in his final tune up game against a formidable Bundesliga opponent in Hoffenheim, and he showed, in particular, a great connection with the striker Richarlison.
While Richy's future at Tottenham is far from guaranteed - and Everton continue to make noise over a possible reunion - it is looking more and more likely that the former Brazilian national team starter will be staying at N17 for at least this summer.
Richarlison and Andy Robertson can develop an underrated connection
One of Richarlison or Dominic Solanke is likely to leave this year as Spurs negotiate for Omar Marmoush and Cody Gakpo as possible center forward upgrades with better all around profiles than the one Solanke purportedly has. While Roberto De Zerbi has publicly praised Big Dom and may want to see what he has for a full season before giving up on the former England international, if it comes down to one of the two, Richy was more available and more valuable last season with 11 goals in the Premier League to lead Tottenham Hotspur in 2025/26; they would have easily been relegated without the big Brazilian.
Andy Robertson will be especially pleased if Richy stays. Even though there is technically bad blood between them from their days on the opposite side of the fierce Merseyside derby, perhaps the second best rivalry in England after the venerable North London Derby between Tottenham and Arsenal, these guys are professionals and showed a great connection.
Richarlison and Robertson are both intelligent players who understand the timing of crosses and passing, as well as movement in the box. That is how they connected for a great goal in the preseason, and there will be more of that to come. Solanke just doesn't do stuff like that, and Richy going would be a big loss for what Robbo can bring to the table for Spurs.
