Richarlison is deeply disappointed in Tottenham Hotspur and speaks out on Instagram
Richarlison's move to Vasco da Gama has collapsed at the last minute. The 29-year-old forward, who no longer featured in Tottenham Hotspur's first-team plans, could not agree personal terms with the Brazilian club. That is according to The Independent, citing sources at news agency Press Association (PA).
Recently, Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi delivered a particularly painful and telling message to Richarlison by giving the final "foreign" spot in the Premier League squad to Xavi Simons instead. Simons is currently out with a knee injury.
After Spurs dropped him to the Under-21s, Richarlison looked destined to leave for former club Everton this summer. That move never got over the line, leaving the 29-year-old poacher staring at a hopeless six months.
In Brazil, though, Vasco da Gama seemed to offer a way out. The clubs were discussing a permanent transfer because a loan was not possible: Spurs have already sent six players out on loan to overseas clubs and have therefore hit the limit under FIFA rules.
Vasco da Gama agreed a fee with Spurs. Yet the striker could not reach an agreement with the Brazilian club, The Independent report, based on PA. The deal then collapsed.
On Instagram, Richarlison insisted the "problem" was with Spurs. "I received other offers, but I made it very clear that I wanted to stay at Vasco until December. Unfortunately, Tottenham set a limit on the loan period, which meant it did not work out."
Earlier this week, reports also emerged that Richarlison wants his Spurs contract, which runs until mid-2027, terminated with immediate effect. "The striker's camp believe that Tottenham cannot make the decision to banish the player from the first team to the Under-21s," Brazilian outlet Globo wrote.
Should that fail, Richarlison looks set to spend the next six months with Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s. Spurs signed the 54-cap international from Everton in 2022. Since then, he has played 134 matches for the Londoners, recording 32 goals and 15 assists.
