Micah Richards was keen to single out Marcus Rashford for praise following his standout display against Everton.

Although Manchester United ultimately slumped to a 2-2 draw at the home of the Toffees, the forward certainly looked back to his best.

Reacting to the afternoon’s affairs on The Rest Is Football, Richards said: “I thought Rashford was outstanding in the game.”

Gary Lineker echoed the sentiment, adding: “He’s looking sharp.”

“He looks very sharp,” Richards continued. “He’s direct. He’s not second-guessing himself. He could have had at least two or three assists in the game.”

Lineker proceeded to recall one moment in the match where Rashford displayed some clever footwork to weave his way into Everton’s box before being dispossessed at the final moment by James Tarkowski.

Rashford looking to nail down starting spot

The 28-year-old was deployed from the off for the second successive outing, so he’ll be hoping he’s done enough to retain his place for Sunday’s Manchester derby.

Michael Carrick may opt to make some changes to his XI on Thursday, when the Reds take on reigning Azerbaijan league champions Sabah in M16.

However, Rashford was withdrawn at the 70-minute mark on Merseyside, with Carrick confirming post-match that he had suffered a slight injury.

Fans will be keeping a close eye on whether the attacker is involved in training at Carrington in the lead-up to the midweek encounter.

While he was perhaps United’s best player in matchweek three, Rashford won’t feel satisfied until he opens his account for the season; he has yet to score or assist in his three appearances since being reintegrated into the squad.
