Reportedly also on Bayern Munich's radar: Liverpool are said to want to sign a new goalkeeper
Liverpool are reportedly showing concrete interest in Belgium Under-19 international goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans of KRC Genk.
Belgian transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri reports that talks over a move are under way. The report adds that Liverpool are convinced by the 18-year-old goalkeeper's potential and want to bring him to Anfield Road as a replacement for the current number two, Giorgio Mamardashvili.
Tavolieri adds, however, that the Reds are not the only club tracking Brughmans. He says the teenager is also "on the radar" at German record champions Bayern Munich. How advanced Bayern's possible interest in head coach Vincent Kompany's fellow countryman (40) is remains unclear.
In Belgium, Brughmans is viewed as a major goalkeeping talent and has come through every junior national side since the Under-15s. The two-metre stopper has also worn the captain's armband for the Under-19s, for whom he has made two appearances so far.
Earlier in his youth career, Brughmans played for Royal Antwerpen and PSV among others. He joined Genk from Eindhoven on a free transfer in 2022, stepped up into the senior squad last season and made his first appearances. He has now made 15 appearances for Genk's senior side. This season has not gone smoothly so far. In four league matches, Brughmans has already conceded eight goals, and Genk currently sit seventh in the table.
A few weeks after signing an early contract extension, Brughmans remains under contract with his current club until 2030.
What is the current goalkeeper situation at Liverpool?
Since his transfer from Valencia in 2024, followed by a one-year loan back to former club Valencia, Mamardashvili (25) has been seen at Liverpool as the crown prince to first-choice goalkeeper Alisson (33). While the Georgia international is still under contract with the 20-time champions until 2031, Alisson's deal expires after this season.
Bayern Munich are in a similar position, with the contract of their long-standing number one also due to expire next summer. Manuel Neuer (40) could therefore be playing his final season for the Reds. Since the sale of Alexander Nübel (29) to Besiktas a few weeks ago at the latest, Jonas Urbig (23) has been viewed as Neuer's successor whenever he leaves Munich. The former Cologne player is under contract at Säbener Straße until 2029.
