Tottenham have reportedly launched a move to try and hijack Aston Villa’s efforts to sign Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

Spurs could clearly do with more strengthening in the transfer market before the end of the window after a dire performance in their opening day 3-0 defeat away to Brentford.

Signings up front surely have to be a priority now after the north Londoners struck deals in defence and midfield earlier in the summer as the likes of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and Jan Paul van Hecke joined.

It seems Tottenham are now keen to land Jackson as the man to spearhead their attack, according to Football Fancast.

Tottenham linked with Nicolas Jackson but can they fit him in?

Spurs are seemingly keen to beat Villa to Jackson, though this comes as they’re also being strongly linked with two other big names in attack.

Marmoush can play out wide or up front, so perhaps he’s being targeted to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s side out wide, while Jackson or another striker could become the main centre-forward.

Aston Villa need to get Nicolas Jackson transfer done

Villa look like they need someone like Jackson to come in as soon as possible, with Ollie Watkins out of Unai Emery’s squad this afternoon while Emi Buendia fills in up front.

That seems far from ideal, and it could be that Watkins is soon set to leave Villa Park to join Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.

See below for details from Fabrizio Romano on Watkins’ future, with the journalist noting that AVFC are working on a replacement, even if he hasn’t named Jackson…

Still, the Senegal international could be a good option for a club like Villa, having shown what he can do in the Premier League, even if he’s not quite Chelsea quality.
