Report: Arsenal make contact over sensational Erling Haaland move

Well, this is certainly one to raise an eyebrow at.

Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs to have made contact with Erling Haaland’s representatives as uncertainty continues around Manchester City.

According to Football Insider, both the Gunners and Real Madrid have approached the Norwegian striker’s camp regarding the possibility of a future move, following the reports surrounding City’s Premier League financial case.

Could Arsenal really sign Haaland?

The report claims the initial contact concerns a possible move in 2027, with Arsenal apparently looking to position themselves should Haaland’s situation at the Etihad change.

That is quite some claim.

Haaland remains contracted to City until 2034, and the report adds that his deal does not contain a relegation clause. In other words, even if City were eventually hit with a major sporting punishment, there would be no automatic mechanism allowing the striker to simply walk away.

The Norwegian’s form certainly gives no suggestion that his standards are dropping either. He has started the season strongly and remains one of the most prolific forwards in world football.

That explains why Arsenal, Real Madrid and potentially several other elite clubs would naturally be interested if he ever became available.

Interest, however, and actually completing a deal are two very different things.

One to watch – but with plenty of caution

From an Arsenal perspective, it would be difficult to imagine many more dramatic transfers than Haaland moving from City to the Emirates to become a Gunner alongside his Norwegian captain, Martin Odegaard. Imagine!

Yet this story remains firmly in the speculative category.

There is no suggestion of an agreement, negotiation over a fee or even that Haaland himself is seeking a move. At this stage, the claim is simply that Arsenal have made contact with his representatives about a possible future transfer.

Still, given the uncertainty surrounding City, it is perhaps not entirely surprising that rival clubs are checking what opportunities might eventually emerge.

We’ll keep the sceptical eyebrow raised for now, but this is certainly one rumour worth keeping an eye on.
