Premier League rivals are already circling after Man City guilty verdict
Manchester City have been found guilty of all but one of their 115 charges for breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations.
They face a punishment from the league, which could range from points deduction, to being stripped of their titles and even potentially expulsion from the Premier League.
If things weren’t bad enough for Man City with this verdict, four clubs are reportedly seeking legal action against City for compensation from loss of earnings missing out on European finishes and league titles due to financial breaches.
Premier League rivals could be aiming at Manchester City after finding of guilt
Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, and rivals Manchester United are the clubs that would expect compensation if the verdict stands, and it could be worth over £200 million in prize money, sponsorship bonuses, and income from playing in European competitions.
Everton were ruled to pay £35.1 million to Burnley after breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules in 2021-22, which was deemed to have given them a sporting advantage. A decision that set a new precedent which now could be major with Man City.
Manchester City are expected to appeal the ruling, so any legal action will have to wait until after the process is complete, but clubs are piling on City following the guilty verdict, with more likely to come as the case goes on.
Man City remain insistent on their innocence, but in the biggest breakthrough since the initial charges in February 2023, with the announcement that they’ve been found guilty on nearly all charges and clubs planning legal action, the international break has not been kind to the Cityzens.
