After two relegation frights, a summer of big spending had Tottenham fans feeling optimistic about the new campaign. Two league defeats and no goals has tempered enthusiasm, however, and Roberto De Zerbi desperately needs a positive result.
Saturday’s trip to the City Ground provides a decent opportunity to land that, but so did last week’s home game against new-look Newcastle and look how that panned out.
Nottingham Forest have not enjoyed the strongest start themselves, picking up only one point, but they deserved their draw at Liverpool and that battling performance was enough to suggest Oliver Glasner’s Reds can add to Spurs’ struggles.

Nicolo Savona is a long-term absentee for Forest while Ibrahim Sangare missed the trip to Anfield with a knock and will have to be assessed.
James Maddison could return for Spurs but Dejan Kulusevski, Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert remain on the sidelines.

Prediction
Over time, Tottenham’s signings should come good. Right now, however, the Lilywhites are still looking like the team which finished 17th last term.
That team was hammered 3-0 by Nottingham Forest home and away, so with the Reds putting in a valiant effort at Anfield and Spurs yet to score a league goal, it is hard to oppose Glasner’s hosts.
Their chances of three points will be largely down to how well talisman Morgan Gibbs-White plays. Luckily for the Reds, he was on fire at Liverpool, scoring one goal and setting up the other, and he will be looking forward to playing Tottenham, having netted against them in March.
At the other end, Spurs need Omar Marmoush to be at his best. He was not quite that on his debut against Newcastle but he did get away one shot on target and it would be a surprise if the lively Egyptian failed to repeat that feat at the City Ground.
