West Ham head to Tyneside knowing victory against Newcastle would drag them out of the relegation zone with one match to play.

Nuno Espírito Santo's side are two points adrift of safety after last weekend's dramatic home defeat to Arsenal, but Tottenham's subsequent draw against Leeds and tough upcoming schedule gives them hope of survival.

Newcastle, meanwhile, sit 13th with 46 points. Their mid‑season revival fizzled out and it would take an incredible sequence of results for them to claim an unlikely European berth.

The Hammers won the reverse fixture 3‑1 in November and are chasing their first Premier League double over the Magpies since 2018-19.

Team news

Newcastle emerged from last Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest without fresh injuries.

Lewis Hall took a couple of knocks, including chipping a tooth, but finished the match and should start again.

Tino Livramento, Lewis Miley, Emil Krafth, and Fabian Schär remain out, with Eddie Howe admitting Livramento is unlikely to return from his thigh problem this season, while Miley faces months on the sidelines after breaking his leg in training.

Nick Pope has regained his spot in goal and looks set to start behind an unchanged back four.

West Ham arrive with a near‑full squad, although Adama Traoré is a doubt after aggravating a quad issue in training.

Nuno could revert to a back four after starting with three central defenders against the Gunners.

Pablo could return to add some legs in the middle of the park with Jean-Clair Todino the defender most likely to step down.

The stats

Newcastle’s home form has collapsed compared to last season with Howe's side taking just 29 points from 64 available, down from 38 in 2024-25.

The Magpies have lost five of their last seven Premier League games at St. James' Park.

West Ham have won only four away league games this term, albeit three of those have come since mid-January.

The Hammers have returned victories in two of their last four visits to Tyneside, including a 2-0 win last season.

Tomas Soucek has scored more Premier League goals against Newcastle (5) than he has done against any other opponent.

Barnes has delivered 16 goals and five assists across 55 games for Newcastle this season in all competitions.

Prediction

Newcastle look flat, short of motivation and weakened by injuries, while West Ham, by contrast, are battling for their lives and showed against Arsenal that they can compete with top‑level opposition.

However, the clearest angle here lies in the goalscorer market, with Barnes finishing the campaign in strong form.

He has scored in each of the Magpies' last two games and his direct running should trouble an Irons backline that has conceded in 13 of their last 16 away games.

Barnes also has an excellent record against the Hammers with six goals in his last 12 appearances against the London club.
