Newcastle have made a decent start to life under new manager Matthias Jaissle with a draw against Liverpool and a win over Tottenham.

Their home games against Bournemouth tend to be goal-filled affairs and the Cherries should look to be positive on Saturday as they go in search of a first victory of the season after coming close against both Manchester City and Everton.

Team news

Newcastle are set to be without Dan Burn, Tino Livramento, William Osula and Joelinton.

Bournemouth boss Marco Rose has started the same team in both games against Manchester City and Everton and that option will be open to him again with no fresh injury or suspension issues.

The stats

Newcastle have kept just two clean sheets in their last 27 outings.

Bournemouth were unbeaten in their final 18 league games of last season.

Both teams have scored in seven of the last eight meetings at St James’ Park.

The Cherries are unbeaten in their last eight league games against the Magpies.

Bournemouth drew a Premier League high 18 matches last term.

Newcastle’s last eight league home matches have all produced at least three goals.

Prediction

There have tended to be plenty of goals in Newcastle’s recent home games with the last eight all generating at least three, so that trend could continue when Bournemouth make the long trip to the north east this week.

The Cherries were denied by a late equaliser against Everton last week and seen off by two goals in the closing stages the last time they were on the road at Manchester City.

Newcastle also struggle to keep clean sheets – the 2-0 win at Tottenham was only their second in 27 games – so over 2.5 goals looks a real possibility.

Anthony Elanga has had a strong start to the campaign with goals in both of the Magpies’ matches and that confidence boost should have him buzzing for Saturday’s match.

Take the former Manchester United man to find the net again, while Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert can muster a shot on target.

The Dutchman has re-established himself in the starting line-up and had four efforts on goal in last week’s draw with Everton, so he could test the Newcastle goalkeeper.

Score prediction: Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth
