On Sunday Crystal Palace will attempt to halt a 10-game winless run when they host Chelsea in a London derby that has not been kind to them in recent years.

The Eagles have not beaten the Blues in more than eight years, losing 13 and drawing three of their 16 top-flight meetings since a 2-1 home win in October 2017.

Oliver Glasner's side have been on the slide recently, collecting only two points from the last 21 on offer in the league and crashing out of the FA Cup to non-league Macclesfield.

Chelsea have secured three wins since switching head coach earlier this month, but the manner of their drab 1-0 victory over Pafos in midweek suggests Liam Rosenior needs to produce more to satisfy their fans.

Team news

Palace are expected to have Daniel Munoz available again after the Colombian wing-back missed just over a month of action with a knee issue.

Nathaniel Clyne could also be back in the matchday squad after missing the defeat to Sunderland last week, while Ismaila Sarr is likely to return to the starting XI, fresh from winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title with Senegal.

Glasner has also stated that Jean-Philippe Mateta will be involved, despite rumours of strong interest in the striker and a potential desire to move on this month.

As for the Blues, Cole Palmer is expected to return to the starting XI after recovering from a minor thigh issue and Reece James is pushing for a start after workload‑managed rotation in midweek.

Jamie Gittens and Estevao missed last week's win over Brentford through illness but should be available after making the bench in midweek.

Tosin Adarabioyo joins Romeo Lavia and Levi Colwill on the sidelines after picking up an injury against the Bees and goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is a doubt after coming off at half-time against Pafos in midweek.

The stats

Crystal Palace are winless in 10 matches in all competitions and Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 16 league meetings with the Eagles (13 wins, 3 draws).

Maxence Lacroix has completed the fourth-most successful clearances in the Premier League (156).

Mateta is Palace’s top scorer with eight goals this season.

Prediction

Goals have come at a premium in the last three meetings between these clubs, which have all finished level.

The opening-day clash at Stamford Bridge earlier this season was a tight, tactical affair that only opened up in the final 20 minutes, when the bulk of the goalscoring chances were created, and missed, by both teams.

Palace were in much better form back then and it may be no coincidence that their alarming recent drop-off has come during a period of volatility off the pitch.

Marc Guehi's exit and Glasner's subsequent declaration that he is off in the summer has destabilised the dressing room with Mateta now tipped to be the next in line to leave.

A more clinical Chelsea side could make them pay, but Rosenior's side are not used to beating top-flight opposition on the road, let alone running up the score.

With the last meeting ending 0‑0 and Palace's winless run showing no signs of easing, fewer than three match goals stands out as the most reliable angle.
