  • Brentford returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Burnley

  • Recommended bet: Arsenal to win and both teams to score

Arsenal host Brentford at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Wednesday night when the leaders will be aiming to make it 18 games unbeaten.

Top of the table, the Gunners extended their run with a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Sunday, and now take on a dangerous Bees side that beat Burnley last time out.

Team news

William Saliba missed Arsenal's draw with Chelsea after picking up a knock in training on Saturday. The Frenchman will be assessed but is a major doubt to face Brentford and is likely to join fellow first-choice centre-back partner Gabriel on the sidelines.

If that proves to be the case, Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie will continue in defence.

Further up the pitch, forward Leandro Trossard is dealing with a muscle problem, while Kai Havertz is still out with a knee injury.

Gabriel Jesus made the bench at Chelsea and could feature, while Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Odegaard and Noni Madueke have all came on after recent spells out.

Brentford will be without Josh DaSilva, Fabio Carvalho and Antoni Mialmbo with the trio all unavailable due to respective knee injuries.

Loanee Reiss Nelson cannot face his parent club.

The stats

Arsenal have kept seven clean sheets in the Premier League this season — more than any other club.

Brentford have been awarded the most penalties in the Premier League this season (seven in 13 games).

Arsenal are unbeaten against Brentford, winning five and drawing twice, since losing the first-ever Premier League clash between the sides in August 2021.

The Bees’ last away victory over Arsenal came at Highbury in April 1938 — Brentford have since drawn three and lost four when visiting the Gunners.

Arsenal have won 10 of their last 12 night games in the Premier League, last losing to West Ham in December 2023.

Prediction

Arsenal have won all but one of their games at home this season, drawing only with Manchester City in September, while Brentford have lost five of their six away matches in the Premier League this term.

The Gunners unsurprisingly go into this fixture as heavy favourites and will be looking to at least maintain their lead at the top of the table heading into the busy festive period.

However, while Arsenal will be expected to win, Brentford have failed to find the net just twice this season and boast the Premier League’s second top scorer in Igor Thiago up front.

The Brazilian is enjoying a ruthless streak, with 11 goals this season, nine of which have come in the last eight games, and so backing both teams to score could be a smart move.

Arsenal are a tough nut to crack having conceded only three goals in 10 matches at home, though Thiago has shown he is clinical when a chance presents itself.

The Gunners will also have to be careful defending the area as Brentford have been awarded seven penalties in 13 games already this season.
