Arsenal remain firmly on course to win the Premier League for the first time in over 20 years and they should rack up another important win when Sunderland visit the Emirates on Saturday.

The Gunners suffered their only home defeat in the league this season when Manchester United stunned them last month but, since then, things have gone very well for Mikel Arteta's side.

They followed up a fine 4-0 victory at Leeds last weekend by booking their place at Wembley for the Carabao Cup final on Tuesday.

And, even though the spirited Black Cats can play their part against the leaders, the outcome looks set to be a fairly routine one for the title favourites.

Team news

Bukayo Saka pulled out during the warm-up against Leeds and the Gunners winger is set to be on the sidelines again.

It is hoped Martin Odegaard, who has not featured in either of Arsenal's last two matches, can return after a recent knock, though.

Mikel Merino and Max Dowman are both definitely absent for the hosts.

Sunderland will be without former Gunner Granit Xhaka, as he continues to recover from an ankle injury, while Bertrand Traore and Jocelin Ta Bi are all ruled out for the Black Cats.

The stats

Arsenal have the joint-best home record in the Premier League (with Man City), winning nine of their 12 games, drawing twice and losing just once.

Sunderland have only won twice on the road in the top flight this season.

The Black Cats have scored in five of their last six games.

Sunderland stunned the Gunners at the Stadium of Light in the reverse fixture, scoring late on through Brian Brobbey to draw 2-2.

Arsenal have only kept two clean sheets in their last eight home games in all competitions.

Sunderland have never won at the Emirates.

Prediction

Arsenal took care of what looked to be, on paper at least, a difficult trip to Elland Road last week with the minimum of fuss — and then watched as title rivals Manchester City and Aston Villa both dropped points.

Arteta has since guided his side to their first cup final in six years and the feel-good atmosphere around the Emirates should continue to grow as they edge closer to the title with another home win on Saturday.

Of their 12 home assignments in the league this season, only Liverpool and the two Manchester clubs have come away with anything, and even though Sunderland have had a fantastic first season back up amongst the elite in eight years, their away form has been poor.

Regis Le Bris' side have instead relied on their brilliant home record to surprisingly compete in the top half, but on the road it has been a different story with just two away wins on their record.

Getting anything off the Gunners looks too big an ask, although the visitors may be able to score in defeat.

Sunderland have registered at least one goal in five of their last six games, and were able to find the back of the net in other tough trips to Anfield, Stamford Bridge and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier in the campaign.
