Petit tells Arsenal to ‘bring’ elite striker who has ‘something different’ to Alvarez after transfer failure

Former Arsenal man Emmanuel Petit has told the club to “bring” an elite striker as an alternative to Julian Alvarez, who “brings something different” to the Argentinian forward they have failed to sign.

The Gunners have had their sights on Atletico Madrid’s Alvarez throughout the summer. However, they’ve never been the club he’s looked to move to, after imploring the LaLiga side he wanted to head to their rivals Barcelona.

But Alvarez has continuously been told that he won’t be allowed to move there, and Arsenal themselves now look like they’re going to fail, with the latest update, from journalist Alex Silvestre, that it’s “almost 100 per cent certain he won’t leave Atletico Madrid.”

With their main option no longer an option, the Gunners have been told by their former player Petit that Victor Osimhen would be a great alternative.

He told Oddschecker: “A different player, not the same quality as Alvarez. He would bring a powerful presence up front. He’s fast, he’s a fighter, and he has a strong personality. He brings something different than Alvarez, bring him in! They are two different options, but I like them both.”

It follows his thoughts on Alvarez: “He’s a beautiful player with great movement and intelligence. He’s got speed, technique, and vision. He can score many goals and provide assists. It’s hard sometimes to get intelligent players who understand the DNA of the team. Arsenal have a proper DNA on the pitch. I think Alvarez would be perfect for Arsenal.”

Atletico Madrid could still sell Julian Alvarez

Hope might not be lost of Alvarez at Arsenal, but the transfer hinges on him being open to heading to the Emirates.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has said: “Until today, until tonight, until the recent hours, Julian always said only Barcelona, ‘I want Barcelona, my dream is Barcelona ,’ but Arsenal keep waiting and remain on their position.

“So let’s see what’s going to happen there because Atletico Madrid CEO, even after the Champions League draw, went in public and said something very powerful on the Julian Alvarez situation. He said ‘until and as long as I will be here as Atletico Madrid CEO, forget about Julian Alvarez to Barcelona.’

“So not just for this transfer window, he said, as long as I will be the CEO. So that means not just this transfer window but also for the future; the message is very strong. So the message then, when it’s talking about other clubs, he said ‘if he doesn’t want to stay in Madrid, no to Barcelona, but we are open to finding a solution.’

“Guys, the message from Atletico Madrid is very clear: if Julian wants to go to Arsenal, please go. You are free to go. They would love to keep Julian, obviously; Atletico Madrid would love to continue with Julian to have a new chance to continue together. But if Julian wants to go and if Julian will ask to go, they know that Arsenal are there. So, it’s on Julian to decide what he wants to do.

“Let’s see, because this Arsenal scenario should not be underestimated.”
