Palace make Tyrick Mitchell a priority as United interest lingers

Crystal Palace are moving quickly to secure Tyrick Mitchell’s long-term future, with his current deal at Selhurst Park set to expire next summer and Manchester United still keeping tabs on the left-back.

According to The Peoples Person, which cites Football Insider, Palace are accelerating plans to tie Mitchell down to a new long-term contract. Chairman Steve Parish has reportedly identified one or two players the club are especially keen to retain, and sources indicate Mitchell is first in that queue.

Why United are watching so closely

The interest from Old Trafford is not new. United have been strongly linked with a move for the Palace left-back as part of a wider search for a solution on that flank, a position INEOS identified as a priority last summer before the midfield overhaul took precedence.

That left-back question hasn’t gone away. Luke Shaw’s own situation at Old Trafford remains unresolved, and United had also monitored Newcastle’s Lewis Hall as an alternative before Hall committed his future to St James’ Park. That left Mitchell looking like the clearest fit: Premier League-proven, and, crucially, edging toward the final year of his contract.

Complications for a potential move

Palace’s renewed urgency changes the calculus somewhat. The persistent links to United, and suggestions the full-back would jump at a move to M16, appear to have prompted the Eagles into action rather than simply letting his deal run down.

Even if Mitchell were to knock back a new contract to keep his options open, Palace hold a card of their own: an option to extend his current deal by a further year. That alone could complicate any straightforward United approach, even one built around a free or cut-price deal.

Nothing is settled yet. Palace clearly want to move fast, but it remains an open question whether Mitchell signs on the dotted line or lets United’s interest play out before deciding his next step.
