Newcastle want more new signings after completing Gonzalez deal

Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle has hailed new signing Nico Gonzalez as a “great addition” and vowed to continue pushing for further reinforcements before the transfer window closes.

Gonzalez has joined Newcastle in a £50m deal and the Magpies boss says the club’s recruitment strategy is focused on players like the Spaniard.

“We want to continue our brave way, so not bringing in some guys who almost retire. No, no, this is not our approach,” Jaissle said after his side’s 3-2 Carabao Cup win over West Brom.

“We want to continue that really consistently. So we are bringing a young lad in with Nico, but already an experienced one in the Premier League.

“He has many, many matches and he, like I said, brings a lot of quality in possession, but also physically he’s able to bring impact out of possession.

“So I think it’s a great addition to our squad.”

Jaissle also made it clear that Newcastle’s transfer business may not be finished.

Asked whether he wanted further additions before the window closes, he said: “Yes, I will push every day.”
