Neco Williams keeps focus on Forest as United weigh late move

Neco Williams, the 25-year-old Nottingham Forest defender linked with a move to Manchester United, has addressed the speculation surrounding his future without indicating that a deal is close.

Speaking to TNT Sports after Forest’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, Williams was asked about the reported United interest, according to The Peoples Person in a report by Derick Kinoti published on 29 August 2026. Williams said he remains focused on his Forest duties, while acknowledging that it is nice to see interest from other teams.

Why United are circling

United are believed to be scouring the market for a late left-back signing, with the summer window set to close on Tuesday next week. Lewis Hall was identified as a priority target, but Newcastle have made clear that he will not be sold. United also explored a move for Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly, but Mikel Arteta’s reliance on the player and Arsenal’s potential valuation shut the door on a switch.

Williams fits the profile United reportedly want: a left-back option capable of being deployed in other positions. Right-back remains his primary position after his 2022 switch from Liverpool, but he is also highly effective on the opposite side and is proficient in both back-four and back-three setups.

Not the only name on the list

Williams is not United’s only reported option as the deadline approaches. The club have also been linked with Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas and RB Leipzig’s David Raum.

Forest manager Oliver Glasner has no desire to sanction a sale, with talk of a new contract being used to ward off suitors. Williams stopped short of ruling out a move elsewhere, but the indications are that he is content at the City Ground and would have no objections to remaining under Glasner’s stewardship as the deadline nears.
