Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martínez and Matthijs de Ligt all face a crucial test to prove they belong. Shaw's contract expires at the end of the season.

Two names look safe. The same source claims Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven are not under threat, with both counted among the players United are building around for the future.

Full-back could come under the microscope too. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are both under review this season, and United may reignite their interest in Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall after missing out on him in the summer window that closed yesterday.

The plan underlines just how much the 2026-2027 campaign matters for United's defenders. Fitness and consistency will weigh as heavily as technical quality before the club make their decisions next summer.
