Maresca responds to Fernandez’s ‘big club’ comments after completing move to Man City from Chelsea
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has responded to Enzo Fernandez’s comment about joining a “big club” after his move from Chelsea.
The Argentina international completed a deadline day move to the Etihad for a club-record £125 million fee. It has seen him reunited with Maresca, who had previously coached him at Stamford Bridge.
After completing his transfer, Fernandez made a comment that has been perceived by some as a swipe at his former club. “I always dreamed of being at a club as big as City,” the midfielder said in an interview with City.
Maresca, who also left Chelsea on poor terms, was asked about the comment.
“No, I think Enzo Fernandez was already in a big club like Chelsea,” the Italian coach responded. “And he’s happy to be with us now.”
Pressed on whether City are a bigger club, he continued: “Again, same answer. I think Chelsea is a big club and City is a big club.”
