Maresca praises new Man City signings and reveals his captains
Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has praised his side’s deadline day signings Enzo Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye.
Fernandez arrived for a club record £125 million transfer fee, reuniting with his former manager after a lengthy saga.
“I know Enzo quite well,” explained Maresca. “I know what he can bring to the team.
“He’s a winner, he has a winning mentality. He knows how to win, you know, World Cup, Club World Cup. And the main thing is that, again, he’s a winner.”
The Italian coach confirmed that Fernandez will be available to make his debut tomorrow. City’s boss continued: “Again, I just said he’s a winner. When you belong to a squad and another winner player arrives, they are always happy.
“I can promise you that in the last four or five days, four or five players from the squad were asking, is he coming? Because they want him to be with us.
“It’s very important that he’s with us and we are 100% happy with that.”
Ndiaye also made the switch to the Etihad on deadline day. The Senegal international joined from Everton for £65 million.
“He’s so good, he’s so good,” City’s boss answered with a smile on his new winger.
“In the last two days, you can see already how good he is in terms of 1v1, in terms of in the last third, inside the box. I’m very happy to have him with us.”
With the transfer window now shut and the squad set, Maresca also revealed who the captains of the side will be. Bernardo Silva wore the armband last campaign but has since departed for Real Madrid.
City’s boss revealed: “The captains are Ruben (Dias), Erling (Haaland), Marc Guehi and Gigio Donnarumma.”
