Manchester City close in on the sensational blow: Liverpool set their final condition
What is the condition?
Manchester City have intensified their efforts to sign Netherlands winger Cody Gakpo from Liverpool before the transfer window closes. The champions want attacking reinforcements after Omar Marmoush and Savinho left for Tottenham Hotspur, and talks with the player's representatives have reached an advanced stage.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano says City are working seriously to seal the Gakpo deal, confirming progress in negotiations with the player's camp. Earlier reports had suggested Gakpo wished to leave Liverpool during the current window.
According to Romano, Liverpool's position hinges on one key condition. They will only grant final approval for the move once they have signed a suitable replacement.
That search comes as the club looks to bolster its attacking options. Reports indicate Liverpool are close to signing Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, and they have also opened negotiations over Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr.
Gakpo started in the recent clash with Nottingham Forest and set up the first goal for team-mate Alexander Isak. Spanish winger Victor Munoz then stole the spotlight, coming off the bench to score a superb equaliser that earned his side a 2-2 draw.
City's interest stems directly from the exits of Marmoush and Savinho, which has left the wing short. That has pushed Gakpo up the list as one of the most prominent options on the table before the window shuts.
Complicating matters, Gakpo signed a five-year contract with Liverpool after the team were crowned Premier League champions in 2025. His future has become a subject of huge interest as deadline day nears.
