Manchester City are posing an uncomfortable Savinho question to Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Savinho from Manchester City, and they have remained interested in the Brazilian winger since initially showing interest in the U23 talent last year. At that time, Man City did not want to sell despite some being open in the building, as they felt Savinho had too much upside and the club were worried about their depth on the wings. And although City barely played Savinho last season and even signed Antoine Semenyo, one of the Premier League's biggest stars of the season, in the winter, they are still reluctant to sell.
Even though Savinho is holding out of practice and making it all the more apparent to Manchester City that he wants to move to Tottenham, where he would be a much more important player than he is right now, City continue to portray a stance of a total lack of urgency regarding a sale.
Now that Belgian star Jeremy Doku has suffered an injury, there is going to be even less urgency from Man City to sell their young Brazilian star on the wings. On top of that, Man City have already posed a tough question to Tottenham Hotspur regarding just how much they want to sign Savinho by setting a sky high asking price of 85 million pounds.
Savinho's asking price is almost exorbitant
That is the figure that continues to be mentioned alongside Savinho's name, matching the 85 million pounds Tottenham spent on Mateus Fernandes, who is a young defensive midfielder coming off a much better 2025/26 season than Savinho.
On the surface, 85 million pounds for Savinho is straight up overpay. Even in a market that favors young players with high upside going for much, much more money than the others, Savinho would cost significantly more than the combined transfer fee of Cristian Romero and Djed Spence - and 85 million pounds is more money than Tottenham thought they would have to pay for him at the beginning of the transfer window.
Manchester City are thus forcing Tottenham to answer whether or not they are sold on Savinho being a world class winger. Because if Spurs think he is already good enough to be a starting winger for a Premier League Big Six side with the upside to become a top ten winger in the world, then 85 million pounds is worth it, even if it will be derided as overpay right now - and to an even larger extent than the Mateus Fernandes deal has been. It's a question honestly only Roberto De Zerbi can answer, because while Savinho has not played great in the Premier League, he is a former La Liga Player of the Season candidate at Girona. It's a fair question.
