Man Utd forward earns national team recall

Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee has been called into the Netherlands squad as a replacement for Brian Brobbey.

The 25-year-old has been drafted in by Netherlands boss Xavi after Sunderland forward Brobbey suffered an injury during the 1-1 draw with Germany.

Brobbey, who scored a hat-trick in Sunderland’s recent defeat to Manchester City, was forced off after clutching the back of his leg.

Zirkzee has made four appearances for United so far this season and will now have the chance to feature for his country for the first time in almost two years.

The forward has won six senior caps for the Netherlands, all under previous head coach Ronald Koeman, and scored in a 5-2 victory over Bosnia in September 2024.

The Netherlands are due to face Serbia home and away in Group B before hosting Greece in Amsterdam, with Zirkzee now in contention to add to his international tally.
