Manchester United are planning to test the waters with a bid for Mateus Mane after the midfielder was relegated to the Championship with Wolves, reports United In Focus.
United already have a deal agreed for Ederson and now for Andrey Santos in the midfield. That area of the pitch was their priority before the summer transfer window opened, and that remains evident now.
So much so that after bringing in two new midfielders, the Red Devils are planning to add a third.
It's reported they are looking to compete with Liverpool for the services of 18-year-old Wolves man Mane, who the Midlands side value at £35million.
However, United are believed to be ready to test the waters with a £20million move.
Whether that would be accepted is currently unclear, but while Liverpool have been in the race for Mane, they're not expected to be a threat to United's pursuit currently.
Indeed, the valuation of £35million means that the Reds are not bothering to make an approach, though it's felt that could change if it becomes evident Wolves are open to accepting less.
United have budgeted well
So far this summer in terms of their midfield moves, United have budgeted well. They're landing Ederson for £35million and Santos for £50million.
Should they get Mane through the door with their first bid, they'd have spent just £105million on three players.
Across the city at the Etihad, rivals Manchester City are spending more than that on one player - Elliot Anderson.
The Nottingham Forest man does have more Premier League experience than all of United's confirmed signings and the potential addition.
Mane himself has played just 27 games in the top flight, but has impressed in those, with three goals and two assists.
A two-game spell in which he scored twice and assisted once showed what the teenager can do, and if he can put together performances like that more consistently, he'll be a very dangerous player.
That also means, though, that he'll be worth more than what United are willing to pay, and Wolves will surely know that.
