Man City star returns to England squad
Manchester City full-back Rico Lewis has been added to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for their final match of this international break.
The Three Lions will take on Czechia at Wembley on Tuesday night, in their fourth UEFA Nations League fixture of the current campaign.
After losing to Spain in their opener, comprehensive away victories have followed against both Czechia and Croatia. Lewis will now join Tuchel’s squad, as they look to make it a third win in three.
The defender’s call up has come after the withdrawal of his City teammate and fellow academy graduate Nico O’Reilly.
O’Reilly returned to Manchester on Thursday after picking up an injury following England’s defeat to Spain. Although described as a “minor” issue by Tuchel, the full-back has been ruled out of the Three Lions’ subsequent fixtures.
Lewis, who had been with Lee Carsely’s Under-21 squad, will now be promoted to the senior side. The 21-year-old already has five senior caps to his name, having made his international debut almost three years ago.
However, his last cap came almost two years ago. This will be Lewis’ first involvement in the England senior squad since Tuchel took over as manager.
